Donations to CHPL

CHPL welcomes your donations of clean copies of books and other library materials.

Monday – Friday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, bring donated items to the delivery area on the library’s lower level. All items must be in non-returnable boxes or bags. Please note-Staff cannot help with removing donations from vehicles.

  • Undamaged current fiction and nonfiction
  • Text books
  • Classic literature
  • Popular paperbacks with covers intact
  • DVDs & CDs in original cases.


  • Yellowed paperbacks
  • Mildew-stained, musty, or damaged materials
  • Used workbooks and personal journals
  • Magazines
  • Newspapers
  • Encyclopedias
  • Dated materials
  • Artifacts such as furniture, notebooks, art

Materials donated to the Library are considered for inclusion in the Library’s collection. Items not added to the Library’s collection are given to the Friends of the Library for use in their book sales.

Other outlets for the above items include recycling, used book stores, thrift shops, charities and schools.


Contributions to public libraries are tax deductible. Donors are responsible for documenting and appraising their items for tax purposes.
