Libraries enrich lives ... Volunteers enrich libraries!
Volunteer Opportunities for Adults
Response to our call for volunteers has been amazing! All our positions are currently filled. Please check back with us periodically; when we are ready to train another group of volunteers we will begin accepting applications again. Thanks for your interest in and support of the library!
In the future, the Library will again be accepting applications for adult volunteers to assist with the library facility. Please consider sharing your talents and skills, and making a difference in your community through the following (future) volunteer opportunities:
- Patron Education Volunteer: [ job description ]
Assist library staff in educating the public about the checkout machines and process books and media so that they are available for the public. - Library Docent Volunteer: [ job description ]
Help create a place for everyone by introducing the new Chapel Hill Public Library to patrons through 15 or 30 minute tours which use storytelling, question-and-answer and other methods to engage diverse audiences and raise awareness about the new library’s architecture, facilities, collections, and programs. - Materials Processing Volunteer: [ job description ]
Assist staff and patrons by processing the very large volume of returned materials expected in the first days and weeks after opening. Help us empty books drops, sort materials, and ‘read’ shelves to make sure items are in order.

Volunteer Opportunities for Students
Need service learning hours? Youth Services is seeking high school students to help sort and shelve books, straighten the public areas, and shelf-read. There are several two-hour slots available during the week (weekends not an option). For more information, please contact Krystal Black at kblack@townofchapelhill.org or 919-969-2029.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Chapel Hill Public Library!
