WRAL-TV's Bill Leslie Here Sunday, Jan. 24

Yes! This is the program you’ve been waiting for since November when the Friends had to cancel due to weather! It’s Words and Music by Bill Leslie of WRAL-TV.

On Sunday, January 24, Bill Leslie will serenade us with songs from his popular Blue Ridge Reunion CD and and share memories about his father and North Carolina from his book, also entitled Blue Ridge Reunion.

Bill Leslie is an Emmy and Peabody Award winning journalist and top ranked Celtic/folk musician. Blue Ridge Reunion reveals his quest for a spiritual reunion with his dad who died suddenly when Leslie was sixteen years old. The book also provides the reader with the first public viewing of sixty of his father’s majestic mountain watercolors. We are lucky. Some of the original paintings will be on display at Sunday’s program.

Blue Ridge Reunion conveys a vivid twentieth century snapshot of life in the mountains and foothills of western North Carolina. Using his father’s images as inspiration, Leslie weaves fascinating tales of mountain moon shiners, gold fever, a brush with death at age four, a merchant’s mascot named Sputnik and the tragic Trail of Tears of the Cherokee Indians.

The songs on his Blue Ridge Reunion CD were influenced by the same landscapes that inspired Leslie’s father. “They fill me with emotion and a melody emerges inside my head. I can’t explain how or why. It just happens. Later a lyric takes shape.”

Please join the Friends of the Chapel Hill Public Library on Sunday, January 24, at the Library from 2-4 pm for this Beyond the Books program. Refreshments will be served.

Come take a journey with Bill Leslie —- You might just find yourself floating on a wild and scenic river looking up at a canopy of oaks and an azure sky.
