Why aren't there more eBooks?
Or…“Where’s the Patricia Cornwell?”
Many publishers currently refuse to sell or license eBooks for library lending. That means CHPL can’t buy eBooks written by many of the best-selling authors you want to read.
Publishers allow libraries to buy printed books, put them on shelves and lend them to customers, but they manage digital content differently. In fact, many publishers will not sell or license any eBooks to libraries.
Three of the “big 6†publishing houses currently refuse to sell or license eBooks for library lending:
- Macmillan Publishing
- Simon & Schuster
- Hachette Book Group
Frustrating, isn’t it?
