Books Sandwiched In - March 6, 11:30 am

Please join us
Wednesday, March 6
at 11:30 am
in the Program Room
of the
Chapel Hill Public Library
(now located at University Mall near Dillard's)
for a discussion of:

On Gold Mountain:
The 100-Year Odyssey of a Chinese-American Family

by
Lisa See

Shalia Small will lead the discussion.

Lisa See brings a novelist's skill to this sprawling ancestry history from China to California. Her great-grandfather, Fong See, founded a California business and married a Caucasian woman. He fathered many offspring and returned periodically to China to redistribute some of his wealth and launch another family. The author has used childhood tales, extensive interviews and research, and family lore to present a saga of ambition, prejudice, love, loyalty, and sorrow. It is a tapestry of immigrant life, the powerful story of two cultures meeting in a new world.

Books Sandwiched In
is open to the public.
You may
bring a sandwich and share your thoughts
on the book scheduled for discussion.

Sponsored by the
Friends of the Chapel Hill Public Library
This group provides copies of current titles available at the circulation desk on a first come, first served basis.

Selections for the year are chosen by the members
and can be found on the Friends' web site at http://www.friendschpl.org/
