Reference and Online Services
The Reference Desk is located toward the back of the main floor, on the left. Staff members are available to provide reference assistance during all hours the Library is open. The reference staff is also available by telephone (968-2780) or email at askalibrarian@townofchapelhill.org to handle questions that have short, factual answers.
The reference book collection contains over 2000 titles, from multi-volume general encyclopedias to specialized dictionaries and directories.
More than 60 online electronic databases — including MasterFile Premier, InfoTrac OneFile, WorldCat, and Books in Print — are available as part of the NC LIVE project. Patrons can access these databases at the Library by using the public computers, or remotely from home. NC Live resources require a password. To obtain the password, library patrons can click here and log in with your library card barcode and your PIN number, or call the Reference Desk at 968-2780.
The Library subscribes to over 200 magazines and newspapers, covering a wide variety of subjects and interests. NC LIVE also offers online access to complete articles from more than 9,000 newspapers, journals, and magazines.
