  • Open Enrollment Drive
    December 1, 2018
    10:00 am - 2:30 pm
    - During this Open Enrollment drive, certified counselors will provide in-person enrollment assistance at the library in Meeting Room B. During these appointments, two volunteer counselors will meet with individuals and families to help understand their health coverage options and enroll them in a health coverage plan.

Those who do not qualify for affordable health coverage (which is rare) will get a list of free and low-cost healthcare resources in Chapel Hill and Carrboro.

Can't make it on December 1?

Other options are available. Please visit this page to make an appointment online with a different local counselor.

Volunteers for this drive are from SHAC: Get Covered Carolina, which helps guide uninsured members of the community through the process of applying for health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act. Volunteers offer one-on-one counseling for patients recruited through partnerships with the SHAC Medical Clinic, Piedmont Health Services and the UNC Department of Family Medicine.

Get Covered Carolina is officially recognized as a Certified Application Counselor organization by the US Department of Health and Human Services.

  • Geriatric Medicine
    May 1, 2019
    1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
    - Come in for a session focused on geriatric health and medication safety. The topics will be geared towards an elderly population, although all ages will be welcome! The event will consist of a bingo game, a small presentation on medication safety - specifically opioid safety - and time for any questions. There will be student pharmacists from UNC Chapel Hill volunteering at the event to assist participants and act as a great resource for information.

The geriatric population has a variety of unique health considerations, and addressing those considerations can lead to a longer, happier life for so many patients. As we age, we also tend to accumulate more and more medications. Knowing how to safely handle those medications is an important skill to have- especially if there are young grandchildren or children in the home as well. Learning how to properly store and dispose of prescription medications, especially opioid medications, is a public safety issue that we'll show you how to safely navigate.

We frequently take photos and videos at our events. Here's what we do with them.
