Want to show some library love? Looking for a rewarding way to spend your free time? Ever thought, “I wish I could do more to support my library?” That chance has come.
We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers over the age of 18 to help us live our mission, values, and pledge – community partners to work with us side-by-side to provide everyone helpful and friendly service. Take a look at the available opportunities and, if you’re interested, sign up below.

Book Wrangler
- Put books and movies on the shelves
- Ensure that things are in alphabetical or Dewey Decimal order
- Keep shelves and displays neat and tidy
- Organize and shepherd donated materials
Time commitment: 2 hours/week
*Selected applicants will be asked to come in for a follow-up interview. Selected volunteers will need to complete a background check. At this time these opportunities are for adults 18 years of age and older.
Green Thumbs
- Remove invasive plants
- Help with assorted projects in Pritchard Park
Time commitment: 2 hours/month
*Volunteer days are posted in our calendar periodically. No application is necessary to participate.
· Advance the mission and core values of Chapel Hill Public Library
• Attend a training and shadowing session
• Arrive on time
• Do your best with the tasks assigned to me
• Accept supervision graciously
• Follow the library’s behavior policy
• Act in a manner befitting a representative of the library
• Do your part to uphold the high standards of library service
Selected applicants must attend an in-person interview and complete a background check. That process can take 2-6 weeks.
We’ll ask you to attend an orientation session and then one or more two-hour training sessions. That can take 1-2 months
Once trained, volunteers can choose a regular two hour weekly shift according to their availability, and are welcome to do more than two hours per week.
